Children’s drawings from Ukraine
In the midst of war, where destruction and deprivation dominate daily life, children find a way to express themselves through art. These drawings by students of the Brovary Art School near Kyiv are not simply creative works. They are powerful testimonies to resilience, hope and the human spirit. Art becomes a lifeline for young minds, allowing them to process their experiences and imagine a future beyond the misery of war. These drawings remind us that creativity and innocence endure even in the darkest of times.
The Brovary Art School, located near Kyiv, Ukraine, has been nurturing young artistic talents since 1997. Since 2014, the school has provided creative outlets during these difficult times, offering moments of joy and self-expression even in the shadow of war. Because all children face the immense challenges of daily war, the Kyiv Peace Center asked the school’s art department to encourage children to portray their daily lives. The results are very moving. Amid displacement, loss and uncertainty, the children have created powerful images that reflect their fears, hopes and emotions. Since 2022, the artworks of the Brovary children have been exhibited in France at the Maison de la Paix Estaing. The 2023-24 collection can now be seen here.
